Will advancements of Nano Tech effect moral values?
From Wise Nano
GNN: "The future of medicine will include microscopic robots that travel around the human body, collecting information and making minor repairs. At least that's the view of researchers who are working in the emerging field known as nanorobotics. If their designs can be realized, 'nanorobots' might one day detect and break apart kidney stones, clear plaque from blood vessels, or ferry drugs to tumor cells." And as we improve fast in this field new ideas are emerging as explained by David Jay Brown: "The quest for eternal life is one of humanity's oldest dreams, perhaps the ultimate goal of medicine all along. In recent years, life extension research has made great strides toward reaching this lofty goal. If the current trend continues, we can expect that much more radical developments will be along soon, and ultimately it may be possible to extend human life indefinitely."
Now the question arise here is that if human's life longevity is going to be expanded toward almost eternity, what would happen to ethical and moral values? what would really happen to religions and life after death? Does love have the same meaning to us when we are practically not going to lose anybody? how about hatred?
What about terms like companionship, friendship and social life? do we relate to each other as we see right now in our societies when emotions (love) and basically life longevity is going to be altered?
Considering that the more technology evolves the more we are able to handle our affairs by our own and prehaps using machines and devices at our service, these perceptions are based on current trends, eventually becoming single units of autonomous entities. Technology is changing our societies.
We might need to anticipate a lot of changes in the concepts of normative ethics in less than two decades!
