This is a place where something akin to utility fog would really shine. As the void appears, it would be filled with a low density 3d array of foglets, which would provide mechanical support for features which would otherwise be hanging in empty space. They could then evacuate the space as they were no longer needed, and be stored against future use.

The size of the proposed nanoblocks would appear sufficient to make a simple foglet limited to the task of providing temporary scafolding.
