Talk:Main Page
From Wise Nano
WiseNano is doing ok from what I can tell, but I feel it needs more "front page activity" - frequent updates to illustrate that it is a highly active site. Easiest might be a block of titles of the most recent articles added (not just edited), with links. Maybe daily quotes from the "hot debates". Maybe a title-link to the CRN blog. A simple "Last Update" link with date/time", maybe an "updates today" counter.
Linking to people's posts by name on WN would give them a little "ego perk" that encourages posting.
E.g. "In Need more front page activity Tom Craver says 'WiseNano is doing ok from what I can tell, but I feel...'"
Not trivial, I'm sure - but worth doing to help draw frequent visits and encourage participation.

First, search doesn't work. The search term is in the URL, but it states that I searched for nothing.
Second, anyone interested in a research paper about Michael Crichton's Prey and why it isn't realistic? See [[1]]
Editing talk pages by Nanobug 08:11, 14 Jul 2005 (CDT)
Editing talk pages
It appears that article pages can be edited, but discussion pages cannot. They can only be added to with the "add comment" tab.
I know this is a setting that has been turned on for WiseNano, but is this a good idea? It is not set on any other wiki based on MediaWiki that I have used (e.g. Wikiedpia and all its sister projects etc.), or one that I set up myself (within a company, so I can't point you to it).
There are many reasons why talk pages should be editable, including archiving of old discussions, organizing with sections headings, removing of profanities etc. The same reasoning that applies to articles, about letting the community edit the pages to improve their quality, also applies to talk pages.
One problem caused by this setting has already occurred on this site. Someone added a redirect on a talk page to the main page talk page. So now the article can no longer be discussed. See Talk:MM_personnel_education.
I vote this setting is turned off, and we let this wiki work the way wikis were designed to. - Nanobug 08:11, 14 Jul 2005 (CDT)
History on talk pages by Nanobug 08:15, 14 Jul 2005 (CDT)
Additionally, why is the "history" tab not available on talk pages. If we agree to allow editing of talk pages, history should be added back as well. And people can use the standard ~~~~ to sign their talk page comments. - Nanobug 08:15, 14 Jul 2005 (CDT)
