Talk:Early MM Pros and Cons

"We" are the world? by Martin Coppa 00:43, 5 Nov 2004 (CST)
The argument that: "The world is not ready for diamondoid molecular manufacturing (DMM). We will probably not be ready by the time it's developed. Does that mean we should postpone it?", implies that we (those who are openly researching MM) are the only people doing research. What about countries who do not report to the global community (or write on this site for example). Do we truly believe that a totalitarian government has no desire, intention, or project currently underway? What would happen if a totalitarian government were to be funding secret research (and obviously, not sharing their findings while 'borrowing' from researchers worldwide) in order to maintain absolute, unquestionable supremacy? Just because 'the world' will not be ready, does not mean that a faction (or government) will not be ready to colonize the world the moment they have the means to do so.
"If we postpone it, it will come harder when it does arrive". When I read this, I immediately thought 'unfathomable weapons will strike harder upon us, as a total surprise from a source believed to be utterly without research, or behind the pack'. "when it does arrive" we may not know for a year, or several years! Whatever time is needed to perfect 'The Plan' will be well worth it. A dictator with the means to subvert the globe and pacify its population may see his goal as his duty in the deepest sense of the word.
FOR EXAMPLE: [“Islam” means “submission” or “pacification.” A foreign nation is “pacified” by Islamic war until the nation submits and thus gains “salaam” – mental tranquility. (Lev Navrozov - http://www.newsmax.com/archives/articles/2004/10/21/202118.shtml )] If an Islamic Fundamentalist were to have the means to 'pacify' foreign nations (Earth), would he be compelled to do so? What about other faiths and convictions? Is religion a subject that will inevitably be debated on this site?
"We can't postpone it forever; it's rapidly getting easier, and within a decade may be within the reach of corporations and less-advanced nations." Are these corporations and less-advanced nations assumed to be Eagle Scouts and think nothing of the prize they are currently seeking (to be the most powerful force possible)? Why is it unmentionable to say that a (totalitarian) government (with plenty of resources) may be nearer to that goal (of world domination) than 'we' who are begging for research funding with all the inherent bureaucracy it entails (for presumably peaceful purposes)!
"Also, if we postpone it, we will lose its benefits--which could include saving millions of lives per year." What about billions of lives in one year/month/day/hour if people attempt to resist a country with these incredible destructive capabilities?
"If it happens early, we have less time to prepare. But we're not doing much to prepare now." How foolish are we to believe that time is what we need, time is what we don't have; we have the power to act now, what keeps us from acting? As a society, we must act when we are given a choice between prepare now or try to catch up later. The choice falls upon each individual to do their part.
My personal ideas about the choices listed are that 1) Delay is suicide 2) Action must be taken in all fields simultaneously, where each individual can do their part and aid the direction of mankind.
